Florida Division

Greetings to Florida students and new professionals!

Here is the link to the student poster contest for the May 2010 annual conference in Deerfield Beach.

Spring is just around the corner which means it is time for new beginnings! The next year holds many possibilities for students and new professionals, including those offered by FAMFT and the many local chapters. In this update I will share the progress that has occurred since I began my tenure as student/new professional representative for FAMFT. I will also explore opportunities for students and new professionals to become more involved in FAMFT as well as network with one another.
On May 14th and 15th the FAMFT conference will be held at the Hilton in Deerfield Beach. This year’s theme includes “Solutions for Today's Therapist in the Community” and the keynote speaker will be Yvonne Dolan. The FAMFT conference is an excellent opportunity for students and new professionals to expand on their clinical knowledge and network with each other as well as possible employers. In addition to these benefits, FAMFT will be hosting the student poster competition which highlights the clinical and research accomplishments of our student members. This year FAMFT will be offering awards in two poster categories: clinical and research. We encourage all students to submit an abstract by March 14th. The application guidelines will be sent to all student members registered thru AAMFT. If you have any questions regarding the application process or if you need help with your submission, please feel free to contact me via email. I hope this year we will be able to display a wide variety of interests among the many students in the state of Florida!

In December of 2009 FAMFT launched a fan page through the social networking site Facebook. The goal in creating this fan page is to help all members of FAMFT network with one another. In addition, it provides information regarding the statewide conferences and other activities. In the future, we hope to post pictures and videos, and connect with local chapter events to help coordinate all activities for MFTs in the state. The first step in networking with FAMFT is to create a profile for Facebook. Once you have created a profile, the FAMFT fan page can be located by searching for “Florida Association for Marriage & Family Therapy” on the Facebook home page. I look forward to chatting with you all soon!

In December 2010 I will be leaving my position of student/new professional member for FAMFT. During the next year I have many goals I hope to achieve. My primary objective is to create a stronger relationship between students, new professionals and myself. I plan to have a conference call with all local chapter student/new professional representatives to discuss how FAMFT can make conferences more student/new professional friendly. In the future, this will include a “student/new professional” tract at each state conference. In addition, I hope to establish contacts with each training program to address any student concerns or needs. If you are interested in becoming a student representative for your school, please contact me via email.

I look forward to serving the students and new professionals in Florida for the next year. As always, please feel free to contact me at any time if you have questions, concerns, suggestions, or if you just want to chat!

Sincerely,

Andrea Meyer M.S. LMFT
