Florida Continuing Education Requirements for MFTs

The Florida Department of Health has published rules which require all licensed health-care professionals to complete a 2-hour course relating to the prevention of medication errors, and the Florida Board of LCSW, LMHC, and LMFT additionally requires a 3-hour course on Ethics and Boundary Issues 3 CE Credits. New!! The DOH further requires that licensees obtain 2 CE credits on Domestic Violence every third biennium.

In addition, for initial licensure, a board approved HIV course consisting of 3 CE Credits and an 8-hour Florida Behavioral Health Laws and Rules course, and the 2 CE credits of Medical Errors are required. The Laws and Rules and HIV courses are a one-time-only requirement.

Each licensee is responsible for obtaining thirty (30) hours of continuing education every biennium from board approved providers, including a two (2) hour course relating to the prevention of medical errors and a three (3) hour course on Ethics and Boundary Issues. [See 456.013(7), Florida Statutes for further information]. Credits required as part of disciplinary action are in addition to the required CE credits.

You are not required to submit proof of these continuing education hours at the time of renewal. Florida Board approved continuing education providers are now required to submit proof of course completion and CE Credits earned to CE Broker.com. You will be required to submit proof of continuing education hours only if you are selected during a random audit.
